PSEG Default Rates Going Up in Summer 2014

PSEG recently announced the prices they will charge for summer of 2014 for generation and transmission service to customers who have not chosen a competitive supplier and are on the basic generation service (BGS) rate structure. The BGS prices will increase by 11% for residential customers on the the first of June, 2014 when the summer rates for all New Jersey electricity users on default service go into effect. Consumers who have taken advantage of New Jersey electricity choice will not have to worry about the increase in the BGS rates, which are default electric rates for people who have not taken the time to shop the competitive energy rate market.

Basic generation service rates charged by PSEG are determined through an auction process where competitive electricity suppliers bid for the ability to charge a portion of the BGS customer pool. Customers receive on rate structure for the summer month period which begins on June first every year and goes through the end of September, and then a second non-summer period that starts on October first and goes through the end of May of the following year. Since October 1, 2013 residential PSEG electricity customers on BGS rate class have been paying $0.114457 per KWh. On June 1, 2014 a customer will pay $0.1270 per KWh for all consumption above 600 KWh which represents an 11% increase.

In an effort to avoid the price increase, PSEG residential electricity customers who are currently on the default rate are looking to the competitive market to find a lower electricity price. Consumers should be weary of variable rate offers as companies often market a low introductory rate that goes up after the first month to prices that are even higher than the default BGS rates. In contrast, low fixed rates can offer respectable savings for PSEG customers this summer while offering protection against potential future increases by the utility.

Below are competitive PSEG rates being offered by electricity suppliers who are licensed by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. All rate plans are updated everyday.

Plano Electricity Providers

Plano is one of the most affluent cities in America. Located just outside of Dallas, everything Dallas has to offer is very accessible to Plano residences. Plano’s schools rank among the highest in scores in the country. With all the preserves and parks scattered throughout the city, Plano provides a great environment for people who enjoy the outdoors. However the climate can be quite unpleasant in the summer as temperatures often reach above 100 degrees. The hot summer months can make electric bills for Plano residences very high if they have not taken the time to find an electricity provider with a low fixed rate.

Plano grew substantially when huge manufacturers came in and set up their home bases. Familar companies like Frito Lay, Dr. Pepper, Snapple, Cinemark, and Dell Services are all based out of the city. Plano is home to 272,000 residents, making it the 9th largest city in Texas. The climate is what you would expect from a Texas city, it can fare humid and very hot in those intense summer months. The winters can be cold but generally mild in reference to snow and inclement weather.

Finding a Plano electricity provider to service your home is now easier than ever with energy price comparison sites that allow customers to quickly and easily compare offers from multiple providers. There are now over thirty Plano electricity providers competing to gain market share. The success of the Texas electricity choice market has kept electric rates low for those Plano residences who stay on top of their electric bill plans. Customer who haven’t taken the time to review their plan and make sure that their electric rate is still fixed might find that they are substantially over paying from what they could be if they take the time to shop and compare Plano electric rates.

Below is a list of current Plano electric rate offers from providers who are licensed to service Plano homes.

Compare Dallas Electricity Rates

Electricity customers in Dallas are finding ways to reduce their power bills as a result of Texas electricity choice laws that allow consumers to shop for competitive power. States that have deregulated their energy markets are seeing an increase in the number of participating electricity shoppers due to rising wholesale energy prices across the nation. Competitive electricity markets create an abundance of electricity rate options for customers to make personalized choices. Dallas electricity shoppers are becoming more aware of their numerous options as electricity providers have increased their marketing budgets in an attempt to increase their piece of the power pie.

Dallas electricity choice has brought greater flexibility to the residential electricity market. Taking the time to compare Dallas electricity rates can provide a number of benefits to consumers. Customers who have not taken the time to shop and compare electricity providers in over a year will most likely find savings above 20%. Many Dallas consumers who signed electricity contracts years ago and forgot to renew find themselves on high variable rates. These customers often forget to enroll in a new fixed rate plan until one day they get a bill that is unbearably high due to a rise in the wholesale power market which is where variable pricing is formulated. Taking the time to simply compare prices and find the lowest electric rates in Dallas before a contract expires will prevent this scenario from taking place.

Competition in the electricity market also forces energy companies to compete for customers by improving their customer service. For some customers finding a power company who has superior customer service and billing options will be the reason they choose the supplier; they are willing to pay a slightly higher price for power in exchange for a better customer experience. Some energy companies will try to win customers by offering rewards programs and incentives similar to the credit card industry. When comparing Dallas electricity rates, customer service and the quality of the electricity provider’s website should be taken into account.

Finally, the terms of the contract are equally as important as the actual price. Is there a monthly fee? What is the early termination fee? How long will this rate be locked in for? Depending on the consumer’s individual desires, the answers to these questions can help determine the right electricity rate plan. Competition in the Dallas electricity market has produced the right plan for almost anyone. Compare Dallas electricity rates below from a variety of providers and plans.

Electricity Rate Savings Available for PPL Businesses

On March 1, 2013 PP&L raised their price to compare electric rate by an average of 13% for small and medium size businesses. The price to compare is the default rate that PPL customers pay for generation and transmission service who have not entered into a competitive electricity agreement with a competitive power supplier. Through Pennsylvania electricity choice businesses have the ability to shop for competitive electric rates than can offer substantial savings versus the PPL utility default rate.

As the state’s second largest electric utility, the rate increase imposed by PP&L will effect a large number of businesses throughout central Pennsylvania. Roughly 90,000 businesses in the area will see their electric rate increase to $0.1039 (10.39 cents) per KWh. Meanwhile competitive rates for business consumers spending over $600 a month are as low as $0.082 (8.2 cents) which can provide savings of 17.5% once the gross receipts tax is factored.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission reports that 47% of commercial customers in the PP&L service area are still on the price to compare rate structure. All of these customers should take immediate action and find a low fixed electric rate that will provide lower PP&L electric bills. Low PP&L electric rates will offer immediate savings versus the default rate and also protect the business customer from further potential price hikes that can take effect as early as June.

Compare low PP&L business electric rates below. Simply choose your utility (PPL) and your average monthly electric bill. You will then be given a matrix that will let you compare fixed electric rates by term and start month.

Competitive prices have allowed more than two million customers to save on their monthly PECO Energy bills.

PECO Energy delivers power to more than 1.6 million customers in southeastern Pennsylvania in an area that includes Philadelphia. While true electricity choice is only three years old in the PECO service area, competitive power companies have been successful in enrolling over 33% of the residential class in the area and 50% of commercial customers. As more and more businesses have become familiar with power shopping, competitive suppliers began offering service to the 1.4 million residential customer pool.

Penelec Energy Choice Shopping Increases

The Penelec electricity service territory is seeing an increase in shopping activity as consumers in the area have become better educated on the process and benefits of Pennsylvania energy choice. Competition has forced electricity prices down below the utility default rate which has given customers the ability to substantially lower their Penelec electric bills. Though the number of shopping participants has increased in the area, the majority of consumers are still unaware that they even have the ability to choose their electricity company.

Since 2010 Pennsylvania has been a model state in running a successful electricity choice market with dozens of energy companies establishing offices to solicit over 5.4 million residential homes receiving power. Initially the majority of the marketing focus from these competitive electricity companies has been towards the state’s larger electric utility areas, mainly PECO Energy and the PPL service territory. After competitive electricity companies saw the success in power shopping activity in the larger service areas a push to solicit customers in Penelec and other Pennsylvania service areas was enacted.

Thanks to lower Penelec electricity rates offered by alternative companies compared to the official default “Price to Compare” rate, 36% of the residential customer class is Penelec is now purchasing their electricity supply from a competitive supplier. This switch rate is actually higher than the current 32% PECO Energy residential switch rate, but more than 25% lower than the PP&L switch rate. As more Penelec residential customers become aware of the benefits of Pennsylvania electricity choice, mainly lower electricity bills, it is expected that the number of Penelec shoppers will rapidly increase.

Penelec, who encourages their customers to shop for lower rates, makes it easy for residential consumers to compare competitive rates to their default rate. Penelec posts their current price to compare rate on their parent company First Energy site. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission requires all competitive electricity offers to contain all components of Penelec price to compare rate, allowing consumers to compare rates side by side and eliminating the potential of hidden fees.

Below is a list of current, and updated daily, prices offered by electricity companies to customers in the Penelec service area.

CL&P Rate Hike Goes Into Effect on January 1st

Connecticut Light and Power electricity customers are going to see a 22% increase on their electric bills for the price they pay for power generation supply. The current rate of $0.07573, that has been in place since July 2013, will increase to $0.09235 on January 1, 2014. The rate increase will occur for those residential customers who are not currently on a competitive supply contract from a CL&P Alternative supplier.

CL&P residential customers have enjoyed low default generation rates from the utility over the last two years, which has limited growth in Connecticut’s electricity choice market. In Connecticut, when a customer does not shop for a competitive power rate they pay a default rate with their local utility, which in Connecticut is either CL&P or The United Illuminating Company. With CL&P rates being low over the last two years a lack of incentive existed for customers to get out and shop for a lower electricity rate. However, now that those default rates will be rising by more than 20 percent, electricity shopping in the state is expected to take off.

The competitive energy choice market has remained in tact even after two years of low electric default rates. Now that those defaults rates are rising, competitive electricity companies in Connecticut will attempt to get their brand out there in hopes of acquiring new customers. Connecticut residential electricity rates offered in the competitive market will allow a signifiant relief for those customers who will see their default rates rise in January.

Philadelphia Small Business Electricity Savings Available

Businesses in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas have the ability to substantially lower their electricity bills if they take the time to shop for competitive commercial electricity rates. The electricity savings are available as a result of a recent rate hike from PECO Energy at the same time that the competitive business electricity market is pushing prices down.

On December 1, 2013 the General Service PECO price to compare rate surged to $0.1016 per KWh. Meanwhile competitive commercial electric prices are well below $0.09 per KWh. The PECO General Service rate is the default electricity rate charged to small businesses who are not purchasing their power from a competitive electricity company.

The rate hike will go into effect for Philadelphia electricity business customers who have not entered into an electricity contract with a competitive supplier. Companies who have previously switched electric suppliers and who are on contract will see no change on their PECO electric bill. To date 50% of all PECO commercial customers are buying their power from a competitive supplier. The 50% who have not taken the time to learn about Pennsylvania business electricity choice are paying more than 25% for electricity generation and transmission service than is necessary. Companies offering low Philadelphia commercial electricity rates are available for these default rate payers to shop and lower their electric bills.

Business owners and decision makers who receive their electric bill from PECO can use the energy price matrix below to shop for competitive commercial electric rates that will provide savings versus the PECO price to compare. Select “PECO” in the Utility box and then select your average monthly electric bill amount to see specific rates for your rate class.

PECO Households To See Higher Winter Electric Rates

Residential electricity customers in the PECO Energy service area will see a rate increase that will go into effect on December 1, 2013. The rate PECO customers pay for power supply, which includes generation and transmission charges, will increase from a current high rate of $0.0935 per KWh to an even higher $0.0972. The 4% increase comes at a time when residential customers in the area can find competitive power rates under $0.08 per KWh.

Competitive power companies in Pennsylvania have been able to offer lower electricity rates to PECO consumers since 2011. The PECO rate increase that will go into effect in December is only for residential consumers who have not shopped for competitive electricity rates. These customers pay a default rate that is determined by an auction process. Competitive rates, which are based on the energy wholesale buying strategies of competitive energy companies, have been able to offer attractive electric rates well below the PECO default rate.

At this point in time only about 31% of residential PECO customers are participating in Pennsylvania electricity choice by purchasing their power supply from a competitive electricity supplier. With current competitive prices yielding 19% savings versus the December 2013 PECO default rate there is no reason for a default paying customer to not start power shopping. The rate increase is expected to give a slight boost in competitive electricity company sales, however there is really no reason for everyone in the south eastern part of Pennsylvania to take five minutes and find a price plan that will substantially reduce their electricity bills. Online energy price comparison sites have made it easy for PECO customers to compare electricity rates on one platform. While many people just want to get the lowest possible fixe rate that is available, some consumers might opt to pay a slightly higher price in order to lock in a longer term so that they are protected from future price increases like the one about to take place. The online energy price comparison tool allows consumers to quickly compare prices and make a strategic decision.

Below are the lowest fixed electric rates available for PECO Energy customers. We recommend locking in fixed rate as opposed to a variable rate option as variable plans have been seen rising rather rapidly after the first month of service. Even though you can switch suppliers if the variable plan rises, it still takes up to two months for the switch to take place which will leave you in limbo with the variable price supplier free to charge whatever they want.

Dallas Electricity Rates Give Consumers Options

Electricity choice in the city of Dallas provides the 1.2 million consumers residing in the area many options of who to purchase their power from, how the power is generated, as well as the terms and conditions associated with the plan. Due to the Texas electricity restructuring act that went into full effect in 2002, dozens of Dallas electricity companies compete for customers by offering lower prices, reward programs, renewable energy, and superb customer service. Taking the time to compare Dallas electricity rates can provide a substantial savings on the monthly electric bill for consumers. If you are able to find a competitive electricity rate that is lower than your current electricity rate you will achieve instant savings.

Many Dallas electricity consumers do not stay on top of the market and simply get into a routine of automatically paying their monthly electric bill without taking notice to the price for electricity that they are paying. This of course is a common practice in power market that are still regulated. Some Dallas citizens never took the time to learn about energy choice or may have shopped for competitive rates early on but then forgot to keep their company honest by searching for a lower Dallas electricity rate. Also, being the ninth largest city in the United States, many current Dallas residences are new to the area and moved from cities where the electricity market was regulated. These customers might have been directed to a specific electricity company by their landlord who in turn received a referral payment. It is important for all Dallas electricity customers to understand their options surrounding electricity choice.
